About the Workshop 

Children with developmental disabilities are at significantly greater risk of being targeted by bullies than children without disabilities.  This workshop will present an overview of the research on bullying including:

  1. Behavioral characteristics of children targeted by bullies   
  2. Factors which increase the risk for children with disabilities   
  3. Warning signs that a child is being bullied   
  4. Common interventions and their limitations    
  5. A review of behavioral strategies and interventions and   
  6. School-based programs and parent organization to facilitate such programs.

Continuing Education Credits available as follows:

  • LPCs                          3 credits
  • LMFTs                        3 credits 
  • Social Worker              3 credits
  • Educators                   3 CPE credits

Workshop Information

Cost is $40 per person or $75 for 2 from same family.

Walk-ins  add $5.00 per person.

About the Speaker

Joel Farb M.A. is Executive Director of The Center for Behavior Therapy and consulting behavior analyst at The Arbor School in Houston. Texas.  Additionally, he consults with private schools and state agencies.  He holds a Masters degree in human development and psychology from the University of Texas.  Joel has presented numerous workshops, seminars, and professional papers and has published more than a dozen scientific articles in books and peer-reviewed journals.  He has served on the Professional Advisory Council of ADDA-SR since 1993.  He is also a member of the International Association for Behavior Analysis, and the Texas Association for Behavior Analysis.

Objectives

 

By the end of this workshop participants will:

  • Define factors of developmental disabilities that result in a greater likelihood of children with ADD/ADHD being targeted by bullies         

  • Learn the behavioral characteristics of children who are targeted by bullies and to describe the research underlying this    

  • Identify the warning signs indicating that a child is being bullied   

  • Understand common strategies applied with victims and their limitations   

  • Describe core skills targeted by prescriptive skill training 

  • Be knowledgeable of programs implemented to address bullying in schools
