Chris Z. Dendy Presents

Key Transitions: Hitting the Speed Bumps of Life

A virtual presentation for ADHD and Coexisting Conditions

Saturday, September 18, 2021

 9:000 – 11:30 am

TOPIC

Transitions are often difficult for children with ADHD or learning disabilities beginning in elementary school, continuing through middle and high school, and right on into young adulthood. However, the transition from high school to post–high school training or college and then into the adult work world may be by far the most challenging for our teens.

Executive function deficits have a profound impact during each of these transitions. Many key executive skills that are critical for success in middle and high school are also essential for success in the work world. So addressing deficits in executive skills as early as possible during the school years is crucial.

This session provides an overview of key ADHD transitions. In addition, specific intervention strategies will be reviewed for each transition with an emphasis on strategies to address deficits in executive skills whether in middle/high school or in the work world.

OBJECTIVES

• List two executive skills that are critical for success in school and in the work world, plus an intervention strategy for each issue.

• Explain two actions educators and parents can take during high school to facilitate career exploration and the transition to the work world.

• Identify common reasons why adults with ADHD may be fired from a job.

• Identify characteristics of careers that may be more “ADHD friendly.”
