Everyday Strategies to Reduce Anxiety

Virtual,  Date to be Announced

9am – 11:30am   2 CEs Included

Roughly half of all children and adults with ADHD also struggle with anxiety. When people are anxious their brains produce cortisol, raise blood pressure and make it more difficult to think clearly. More often than not the anxiety accompanying ADHD isn’t treated. The two most common treatment strategies are counseling and medication. Unfortunately, cognitive behavioral therapy isn’t readily available in all communities. Medication is sometimes hit or miss because it can be difficult to treat anxiety effectively.

Fortunately, this session will identify several everyday strategies that will help students, parents, and adults reduce their anxiety. Common strategies will be reviewed and an explanation of why these strategies are helpful will be explained.

Participants will be able to:

1. Identify a “bad” brain chemical (stress hormone) that is activated by anxiety and describe its negative impact on the body.

2. List two “good” brain chemicals (neurotransmitters or hormones) that help a person feel better.

3. List two strategies that increase dopamine and/or serotonin and help a person feel less anxious and happier.
